Decomposability of high-dimensional diversity measures: Quasi-U-statistics, martingales and nonstandard asymptotics

چکیده
In complex diversity analysis, specially arising in genetics, genomics, ecology and other high-dimensional (and sometimes low sample size) data models, typically subgroup-decomposability (analogous to ANOVA decomposability) arises. In groupdivergence of diversity measures in a high-dimension low sample size scenario, it is shown that Hamming distance-type statistics lead to a general class of quasi Ustatistics having a martingale (array) property, providing key to the study of general (nonstandard) asymptotics. Neither the stochastic independence nor homogeneity of the marginal probability laws play a basic role. A genomic MANOVA model is presented as an illustration.

Academic performance of students from entrance to graduation via quasi U-statistics: a study at a Brazilian research
We present novel methodology to assess undergraduate students’ performance. The proposed methods are based on measures of diversity and on the decomposability of quasi U-statistics to define average distances between and within groups. They have been employed as an alternative to the classic analysis of variance especially when the assumption of normality is not met. The quasi U-statistics nonp...
متن کاملA High Order Approximation of the Two Dimensional Acoustic Wave Equation with Discontinuous Coefficients
This paper concerns with the modeling and construction of a fifth order method for two dimensional acoustic wave equation in heterogenous media. The method is based on a standard discretization of the problem on smooth regions and a nonstandard method for nonsmooth regions. The construction of the nonstandard method is based on the special treatment of the interface using suitable jump conditio...
متن کاملQuasi U-statistics of infinite order and applications to the subgroup decomposition of some diversity measures
In several applications, information is drawn from qualitative variables. In such cases, measures of central tendency and dispersion may be highly inappropriate. Variability for categorical data can be correctly quantified by the so-called diversity measures. These measures can be modified to quantify heterogeneity between groups (or subpopulations). Pinheiro et al. (2005) shows that Hamming di...
متن کاملAsymptotics for the infinite time ruin probability of a dependent risk model with a constant interest rate and dominatedly varying-tailed claim sizes
This paper mainly considers a nonstandard risk model with a constant interest rate, where both the claim sizes and the inter-arrival times follow some certain dependence structures. When the claim sizes are dominatedly varying-tailed, asymptotics for the infinite time ruin probability of the above dependent risk model have been given.
متن کاملThe Numerical Solution of Klein-Gorden Equation by Using Nonstandard Finite Difference
In this paper we propose a numerical scheme to solve the one dimensional nonlinear Klein-Gorden equation. We describe the mathematical formulation procedure in details. The scheme is three level explicit and based on nonstandard finite difference. It has nonlinear denominator function of the step sizes. Stability analysis of the method has been given and we prove that the proposed meth...
